Tokyo Orientation: Day 1

So in the interests of limiting the amount of "why do I never hear from you??" emails from family and friends (*coughauntscough*) I'm going to *try* and keep this blog updated with highlights of mine JET life. This doesn't mean I wouldn't love personal emails from you are (or even better SKYPE ME) but this way I don't leave anything out in retellings.

So the first full day of orientation! We're in a very nice hotel in Shinjuku, I have two roomates, nice girls also from the Hawaii departure group. Mostly today is just orientation stuff, presentations in the begining (welcome to japan! You will get culture shocked. Here are the stages! Jetlagged-euphoria! Frusteation and Desperateness! Acceptance that your screwed! Contement with your lot in life!) as well as alot of workshops from how to teach to different grade levels to how to not starve while being as cheap as possible. Its kinda sucky, cause they have alot of works shops going on at the same time, and I had to do all the professional "how to teach for elementary schoolers, how to work going to multiple schools" sorta workshops instead of any of the more personal ones about like travel or whatever, but I'll deal. Supposdly they have stuff about that on line too. There was also an info fair (jobfair-esq only people trying to get you to buy their internet service provider instead of working for them), where I got alot of free crap I'll probably chuck to keep my bag weight down. In about 15-20 minutes, all the people in my prefecture (Nagasaki) are going out karaokeing, so that should be rather amusing.

Speaking of people from my prefecture, there are two other girls here that are going to Shinkamigoto with me, and both seem really nice. One of the girls is the one who will have the house next door to me.

Tuesday its more workshops and then Wedenesday we finally head out to our designated areas! That's when the real excitment comes in. All in all things are going very well.

And yes I will take pictures. Later >.>;

  1. Of course, now that you've a blog instead of emails, you'll be getting comments about not updating enough instead of emails saying we never hear from you. >.> There's always a way...

    I hope the workshops they have tomorrow offer the same thing as the ones today; it doesn't seem very productive to have the ones you took for teaching and all at the same time as the useful day-to-day life ones and make you choose between them. Not everyone *isn't* already culture-shocked and all, and those other workshops would be really useful. Not that the teacher-y ones aren't of course, haha, just seems like a bad idea to make you choose between one or the other...

    Take it easy, shake off that jet-lag!
